Ronald Kinzler

Ronald Kinzler, 91, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the Putnam County Care Center on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. He had lived at the Care Center for three years.

Harlan Ronald Kinzler was born in What Cheer, Iowa, on January 24, 1929, the son of Roy and Freda (Ochs) Kinzler. He was reared in Victor, Iowa, and graduated from Victor High School. Ronald married Mae Evon Cross on his 18th birthday, January 24, 1947, before graduating from high school. He farmed in the Victor area before later moving to Cincinnati, Iowa, to farm. He was called into the ministry with the United Methodist Church in 1959. He left the farm to attend college and graduated with a Divinity degree from Drake University.

Ron and Evon served several United Methodist congregations for a number of years. Ron had a wonderful pastor’s heart and was known for his hospital and home visitations, offering loving pastoral care. He had an even temperament that suited him well in his ministry. Ron retired in 1978 and his days were filled in his workshop as a master wood worker. He and Evon traveled to craft shows throughout Iowa where they each sold their crafts. They moved to Unionville in 1995 and Ron was a member of the United Methodist Church there.

Ron is survived by his wife Evon of nearly seventy-four years. He is also survived by two children, Nancy (Alan) Foreman of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Ron Kinzler of Unionville, Missouri. His seven grandchildren are Darin Meinders, Samantha Jones, Chris Foreman, Renee Foreman, Andrea Kinzler, Delane Kinzler, and Shayna Kinzler. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren, as well as a son-in-law, John Roberts, of Holden, Missouri.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, by a daughter, Peggy Roberts,, and by two great grandchildren who died in infancy. He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peg and Gust Carlson.

A visitation for Ronald Kinzler will be at Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home from 10:00 until 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. There will be no services. Interment will be at the Philadelphia Cemetery east of Plano, Iowa.
