Jerry Todd, 86, of Newtown, Missouri, died at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, Missouri, on October 23, 2020.
Jerry Wayne Todd was born near Pollock on the Marley place on November 11, 1933. He was the son of Nova Oden and Mary L. (Doolin) Todd, who preceded him in death. He attended grades 1-8 at the Enterprise country school. Jerry graduated from Newtown High School in 1951. He followed friends to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to work at Peter Pan Bakery and Hometown Dairy for 18 years until 1973. Jerry married Marlene Phyllis Schauff of North English, Iowa, on June 5, 1954.
In 1973, Jerry and Marlene and family moved to the farm where he was raised and, with adjoining acres, went into raising sheep and cattle. He also worked for Gelco Courier and Pony Express Courier for nearly 20 years before in 1994, Jerry was stricken with Guillian-Bere Syndrome and was forced to retire. He made a remarkable recovery and returned to driving at OATS Transportation for 15 years. He continued to work improving the farm with brush cutting after he retired from OATS. Over the years Jerry has driven many miles with family members traveling the United States. He was baptized in 1946 by Rev. Baecker Schrum at Newtown Baptist Church and has been active at the Ravanna Baptist Church the last several years.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years this past June. The celebrated at their favorite place for catfish – Peter’s Place with son Philip and wife Donna. Jerry is also survived by son Philip (Donna) Todd of Newtown, and daughter Sharon (Stan) Peterson of Mora, Minnesota. His grandchildren are James Foster, Aaron, Matt, & Jerrid Todd, David Montano, and Laura Montano, and his great grandchildren are Keegan and Khloe Foster, Erika Cole, with one on the way. Other survivors include a brother, Dr. David Todd of Kirksville, Missouri, and a sister, Carolyn Otto of St. Louis, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Eric Lee Todd in 1979.
Funeral services for Jerry Todd will take place at Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, Missouri, at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, with visitation from noon until 2:00 on the same day as the service. Interment will be at the Newtown Cemetery.
