Tigers Drop Overtime Thriller At Mexico

In an otherwise well played game for the Kirksville Tiger defense, the one play they had trouble stopping all night was a pitch out to the left to Mexico’s Isaiah Reams.  Mexico pulled that play out of their hip pocket on the game winning two point conversion in overtime and Mexico beat the Tigers 22-21.  Regulation ended in a 14-14 tie, Mexico won the overtime coin toss and elected to go on defense first.  KHS scored on a drama filled first possession, a one yard run by quarterback Jaden Ballinger.  The PAT kick by Andrew Nothdurft was good giving the Tigers the lead 21-14.  On Mexico’s ensuing overtime possession, Dante Billups scored his third touchdown of the game on a three yard run to pull to within one point, 21-20.  In a move that wasn’t a total surprise, Mexico went for the win by pulling out the play that worked for them all game long, a pitch out to the left side to Isaiah Reams who took it into the end zone to give Mexico its only lead of the night and the game winner 22-21.  Kirksville outgained the Bulldogs 321 total yards to 283, but Mexico had over one hundred more rushing yards than the Tigers, 246 to 132.  For Kirksville, Ballinger finished 22 for 27 for 189 yards and a touchdown, but Kirksville’s failure to score in the second, third and fourth quarters proved to be costly.  Kirksville dips to 4-3 overall, 1-3 in the NCMC.  Next, Kirksville is schedule to play Fulton in their final regular season home game Friday at Spainhower Field. Marshall beat Fulton 59-21 Friday night.
