Hannibal Spoils Tigers Homecoming

The Hannibal Pirates dominated the line of scrimmage throughout the game and beat the Kirksville Tigers Friday 47-14 at Spainhower Field.  The third rated team in the state forced the Tigers into a three and out on their opening possession, then quickly scored the game’s first touchdown on a three yard run by Andre Thomas to give Hannibal a lead that would never be threatened.  Trailing 33-0 in the third, the Tigers found the end zone on a five yard run by lineman Bryce Kertz who ran in untouched on the play. Jaden Ballinger would score on a nine yard run early in the fourth.  Landon Yardley was a bright spot for Kirksville, carrying the ball 19 times for 118 yards, and catching three passes for 45 yards.  Ballinger finished 14 for 20 for 174 yards through the air, plus an interception.  Hannibal racked up 409 yards of total offense, 245 on the ground and 164 through the air.  Thomas scored three touchdowns for the Pirates, as did Aneayas Williams.  Quarterback Courtland Watson scored the other TD for Hannibal.  Kirksville dips to 4-2 overall, 1-2 in the NCMC and hit the road next Friday to take on the Mexico Bulldogs.  Mexico beat Fulton Friday 49-28.
