N.Y. YANKEES 8 – N.Y. Mets 7… The Yankees rallied from five runs down in the bottom of the seventh (and final) inning to upend the Mets in the doubleheader opener. Aaron Hicks tied the game with a three-run homer. Gio Urshela singled home Mike Tauchman with the winning run in the eighth.

N.Y. YANKEES 5 – N.Y. Mets 2… Gary Sanchez unloaded a pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the eighth inning as the Yankees completed a sweep of the twinbill. Tyler Wade also went deep for the Yanks.

Chi. Cubs 10 – CINCINNATI 1… Kyle Schwarber homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the Cubs in their bombing of the Reds. Jason Heyward and Ian Happ also hit a pair of homers. The three become the first starting outfield ever to hit multiple homers in the same game.

Tampa Bay 12 – MIAMI 7… Willy Adams’ grand slam highlighted a seven-run top of the fifth inning and the Rays finished off a three-game sweep of the Marlins. Tampa Bay also got homers from Joey Wendle, Yoshi Tsutsugo and Kevin Kiermaier.

DETROIT 3 – Minnesota 2… Jonathan Schoop hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Tigers made it stand in edging the Twins to complete a series sweep. Jeimer Candelario also went deep.

BOSTON 9 – Washington 5… Rafael Devers went 4-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBIs and the Red Sox cruised past the Nationals. Bobby Dalbac blasted a three-run homer in his major-league debut. Xavier Bogaerts also homered.

CHI. WHITE SOX 5 – Kansas City 2 (10 innings)… Luis Robert belted a walkoff three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning as the White Sox outlasted the Royals. Nick Madrigal went 3-for-4 with an RBI single.

Pittsburgh 5 – MILWAUKEE 1… Josh Bell broke a fourth-inning tie with a two-run homer and the Pirates handled the Brewers.

ST. LOUIS 7 – Cleveland 2… Adam Wainwright (3-0) held the Indians to two runs on four hits in a complete-game victory on his 39th birthday. Dexter Fowler went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs.

L.A.  Dodgers 7 – TEXAS 2… The Dodgers got a two-run homer from Cody Bellinger and solo blasts from Corey Seager and Will Smith in downing the Rangers. Their 57 homers in August were the most ever by any team in any month.

TORONTO 6 – Baltimore 5… Teoscar Hernandez’ two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Blue Jays over the Orioles. Rowdy Tellez singled home a tying run in the eighth.

San Diego 13 – COLORADO 2… Eric Hosmer got things going with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning and the Padres also got homers from Trent Grisham, Jake Cronenworth, Josh Naylor and Jurickson Profar in their romp over the Rockies. Chris Paddack (3-3) pitched five-hit ball over six shutout innings.

San Francisco 4 – ARIZONA 1… The Giants used a three-run top of the eighth inning to get past the Diamondbacks. Alex Dickerson opened the scoring with a solo homer in the top of the first inning and singled home a run. Evan Longoria’s single scored San Francisco’s other two runs.

Seattle 2 – L.A. ANGELS 1 (10 innings)… Tim Lopes came through with a tie-breaking pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the 10th inning and the Mariners made it stand in beating the Angels. Kyle Lewis homered for Seattle.

Atlanta 12 – PHILADELPHIA 10… The Braves erupted to score 10 runs in the top of the second inning and barely hung on to top the Phillies. Dansby Swanson also homered for Atlanta.

Oakland – HOUSTON (ppd)… Yesterday’s Athletics-Astros was postponed after a member of the Oakland organization tested positive for the coronavirus.
