Cardinals Doubleheader Thursday With Detroit Called Off

MLB confirmed Monday that the doubleheader scheduled between the Cardinals and Tigers for Thursday in Detroit has been postponed. That pair of games was already postponed once, as the Cardinals were supposed to have faced Detroit four times last week.

The Cardinals are scheduled to play in Chicago against the White Sox beginning Friday.

Though the status of those games is not yet known.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Monday that the the notion of the Cardinals completing 60 games this season looks ‘difficult at this point,’ given that the majority of MLB teams have already played at least 15 games heading into Monday. The Cardinals have played just five games.

Despite that, Manfred told the Post-Dispatch he believes it’s still possible for the Cardinals to play enough games to be considered a “credible competitor in this season.” One option would be for the Cardinals to play as many games as possible, with winning percentage relative to other NL clubs determining their spot in the postseason race.
