Leatrice Adeline Lee, 94, passed away June 29,2020 at Wright Memorial Hospital, Trenton, MO. She was born January 8, 1926 in Sullivan County, near Milan, MO to George William and Sarah Wilmuth (Fairley) Whitacre.
On February 24, 1945 she married Mack Hillard Lee. To this union two children were born, Dr. Rex (Dr. Jana) Lee of Kirksville, MO and Aleta (Kirk) Boyd of Humphreys, MO.
During her working life she was a teacher in one-room schools, bookkeeper for her husband’s tank wagon business and receptionist for her son’s medical practice. She always regretted not attending college and in 1982 graduated from NCMC at Trenton, MO with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She then worked at Sullivan County Hospital and Milan Healthcare, both in Milan, MO. until her retirement in 1991.
Leatrice enjoyed gardening and flowers, but most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Rex and Aleta, one sister Mary Veeder, 5 grandchildren, Travis Lee, Justin Lee, Jade (Lee) Wright, Damon Neff and Heather Neff; 8 great grandchildren Colton Neff, Jaylen Neff, Anna Grace Neff, Keaton Lee, Richae Tipton, J. Parker Lee, Jake Lee, and Thomas Rex Wright. Leatrice was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Mack; an infant sister Dorothy Louise, and brother in law Virgil Veeder.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2020 at Shatto Cemetery, west of Milan. Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan is handling arrangements. Friends may call any time after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home until before the graveside on Friday.
