Steven D. Magruder

Steven D. Magruder, 73, of Jackson, MO (formerly of Brashear, MO) passed away peacefully May 17, 2020 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born in Kirksville, Missouri on April 2, 1947 to Dorrance Magruder and Lois (Leonard) Magruder.

Steve was raised in the Brashear/Gibbs area and graduated from Adair Co. R-II High School in 1965. After high school, he entered the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1968. He then began a 40 year career with Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad, holding many positions within the company, until his retirement in 2007.

On November 27, 1971, in Brashear, MO, he was united in marriage to Janet Snelling of Baring, Missouri. Together, they raised two sons, Christopher Michael and Andrew John. He was always their biggest fan and their best friend.

Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid racing fan, attending many NASCAR and Outlaw Sprint Car events over the years. He was a staunch 2nd Amendment supporter, gun enthusiast, and St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Above all else, Steve loved his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Time spent with them at gun shows, car shows and flea markets always made his day. He never missed a ball game or school event and was always present in their lives. Steve knew no strangers and would give the shirt off of his back to someone in need.

Steve was a member of the Colony Masonic Lodge #168 A.F.& A.M. and the El Kadir Shriners.

He is survived by his loving wife Janet Magruder, of Jackson, Missouri, son Chris Magruder (Pam), of Jackson, Missouri, son Andy Magruder (Jennifer), of Hurdland, Missouri, grandsons Levi Magruder and Eli Magruder, of Jackson, Missouri, Cody Bennett of Bevier, Missouri and Jacob Bryant (Laura) of Hurdland, Missouri ; granddaughter Jackie McAdams, of Seaside, Oregon, Kelsey Bryant (Kaitlyn Siegfried) of Kapolei, Hawaii, nephew Cale Magruder (Cynthia), of Augusta, Kansas, nephew Aaron Magruder (Shanna) of Lone Jack, Missouri, and many cousins and friends. Those that he leaves behind are heartbroken, but thankful that his life was shared with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grand parents, and one brother, Ralph Edwin Magruder.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 22, 2020 from 11:00 am till 2:00 pm, with the funeral and military rites immediately following at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Burial will follow at the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Baring, Missouri.

Pallbearers are Chris Magruder, Andy Magruder, Levi Magruder, Eli Magruder, Aaron Magruder, and Tim Harrelson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Phipps, Everett Cassidy, Jerry Thomas, Danny Humphrey, Tony Fast, and all of his cousins and brothers-in-law.

An expression of sympathy may be left to the American Diabetes Association or Southeast Hospice and can be left at the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 63537.

Social Distancing and Masks are strongly suggested. Please bring your own. If you do not have one, the family will have one available at the entrance.
