Shirley Jo Guffey

Shirley Jo Guffey, 67, of Greentop, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, February 21, 2020 at her home.

The daughter of Richard Laverne and Carmita Sue (Nelson) Guffey, she was born November 12, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father and two nephews, Peter Humphrey and Dylan Robbins.

Shirley is survived by her mother, Carmita Guffey of Greentop, MO; two sisters, Renelda and Ragene Guffey, as well as several nephews and great-nieces.

Shirley was a graduate from Central High School in Davenport, Iowa and went on to receive her L.P.N. degree. She attended four years at St. Ambrose University graduating Summa Cum Laude. Shirley then attended the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, Iowa where she received her Master of Art degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Substance Abuse Counseling. Her past employment included Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and she was a student service coordinator at the Kirkwood Skill Center, a center for vocational evaluation and skills upgrades.

Shirley enjoyed life to the fullest, enjoyed fishing, writing, and was a political activist. She will be remembered for being a wonderful daughter and sister who didn’t know a stranger and would help anyone in need. She also loved and raised Arabian horses on her farm while residing in Iowa for a number of years.

Shirley was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church of Kirksville.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Rose Cemetery near Graysville, Missouri under the direction of Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
