Patricia Anne (Scaffinger) Wagner

Pat Wagner, 78, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

Patricia Anne (Scaffinger) Wagner was born in Albia, Iowa, on July 20, 1941, the daughter of Delmar and Lena (Williams) Scaffinger, who preceded her in death. She was reared in Albia and graduated from Albia High School in 1959. Pat married Dean Wagner in Eddyville, Iowa, on October 3, 1959, and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2008. Pat and Dean lived in the County Line area between Ottumwa and Eddyville after their marriage, where they farmed and raised their eight children. Pat helped on the farm with Dean, working with livestock and raising a garden. The family moved to the Pennville area of Sullivan County, Missouri, in 1978, and then to Unionville in 1985.

Pat worked at the Putnam County Care Center as well the Care Centers in Sullivan and Schuyler Counties. She also worked at Dunlap in Unionville. Pat had a ceramic and porcelain doll shop for several years in the 1980’s. She went back to nursing school after the children left home and obtained her RN in 1997. She worked at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville and was a traveling nurse for a few years. She worked at Liberty Hospital in Liberty Missouri, for 15 years before retiring in 2014.

Pat was a person of many and varied interests, including horses, ceramics, quilting, gardening, and travel. She and her family traveled to England, Scotland, and Ireland in addition to South America. Her home was always open to family and she was completely devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Pat was a life-long Catholic and her faith was very important to her.

Pat is survived by her four sons, Nick (Carla) Wagner, Daniel (Debbie) Wagner, and Paul (Jody) Wagner all of Unionville, Missouri, and David (Suryani) Wagner of Biloxi, Mississippi; as well as four daughter, Chrystal (Larry) Fox and Susan (David) Rigdon of Kirksville, Missouri, and Anna (Randy) Sands and Lisa (Tony) Mayberry of Unionville, Missouri. Twenty-four grandchildren also survive as well as fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Pat was also preceded in death by a brother, Delmar Dwight Scaffinger, Jr.

A funeral Mass will be held for Pat at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville at 10:30 am on Monday, February 24, 2020. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, February 23, with a Rosary at 4:30 pm. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Unionville.
