Lois Gillum

Lois Gillum, 87, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 at The Pines in Kirksville.

Lois was born on June 19, 1932, in Stahl, Missouri the daughter of Harold and Fern (Cooley) Robison. She was raised in eastern Putnam County and attended Green City School before graduating from Unionville High School with the Class of 1950. On February 17, 1951, Lois married Donald Gillum. Four children were born to this union: Michael, LaDonna, Debra and Bradley.

Lois spent her life managing the kitchen, household and family. She genuinely did not know a stranger and was sure to offer to feed anyone. She spent many laborious hours gardening, cooking, cleaning and caning for the family. After retiring from the farm, she moved to Kirksville, Missouri. There, she enjoyed dancing at the VFW, listening to the live Music on the Square, and traveling. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Kirksville.

Lois is survived by her three children, LaDonna (Dana) Fechtling of Albia, IA, Debra (Dan) Mathes of Jefferson City, MO, and Bradley (Monica) Gillum of Green Castle, MO. Her nine grandchildren, Shawna Fechtling, Stacey Mathes, Justin Mathes, Stephanie Overton, Michael Gillum, Sara Gillum, Katelyn Gillum, Laura Valencia, and Sophia Valencia. Her great-grandchildren, Chloe Ford, Andrew Ford, Brett Ford, Tynley Overton, Macey Overton, MaCoy Overton, and Kenzie Campbell. Lois is also survived by a sister-in-law, Kathy Robison and many nephews, nieces, and extended family.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, an infant son Michael Gillum, her in-laws, Don and Nelva Gillum, brother Harold “Bill” Robison, and a sister-in-law Barbara Shelton.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with family receiving friends for one hour before the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Lipp Cemetery in rural Green Castle.
