El-Nora June Sayre passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Saint Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, KS. June was born February 18, 1935, on a farm south of Boynton, MO, the only child of William Harold and Irel Gwendolyn (Vaughn) Wilks. In 1953, June married Ernest Edward Long. They had two children Debra June and Dirk James (deceased). In 1993, she married her soulmate, Amos Avery Sayre.
June resided in Milan most of her life. She moved to Lee’s Summit, MO in the fall of 2017 next door to her daughter. In June of 2025, she moved to an independent living facility in Independence, MO.
June particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren yet she was “Grandma June” to many more. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Milan, Assembly of God Church, Milan, and the Assembly of God Church, Green City. As a devoted Christian and prayer warrior, June impacted countless lives with her compassion and kindness.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Debra and William Havens, of Lee’s Summit, MO; Granddaughter and husband Wendy and Christopher Phelan, Hyderabad, India; Grandson and wife, Dustin and Tara Havens, Lee’s Summit, MO; five grandchildren: Maxwell Havens, Lily Smith, Gabrielle Havens, Christopher Phelan and Dominic Phelan and two foster grandchildren Carl Moyer and Jenna Hargrave.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Sayre.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, April 10, 2026 from 5 to 7:00 pm at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Green City Assembly of God Church.
