Virgil Eugene Stewart

Virgil Eugene Stewart, 65, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

The son of the late Frank Richard and Genevieve Fay (Beall) Stewart, he was born March 3, 1958 in Novinger, Missouri. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, John Richard Stewart and Gary Lee Stewart in infancy. On February 17, 1978 in Connelsville, Missouri, Virgil was united in marriage to Terinda Turner.

Virgil is survived by his wife Terinda of forty-five years; one son Anthony Stewart of Kirksville, MO; one daughter, Bertha Christman of Novinger, MO; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bethel and Linda Turner; four brothers, Jim (Jane) Stewart of Columbia, MO, Harvey (Cheryl) Stewart of Novinger, MO, Ronnie (Deann) Stewart of Brashear, MO, and Bert (Janice) Stewart of Novinger, MO; two sisters, Vicky (Loren) Davis, and Pam (Rick) Williams all of Novinger, MO; three sisters-in-law, Tina (Roger) Hughes, Terressa (Raymond) Hatcher, and Tamra (Mark) Sizemore; three grandchildren, Shelby (Colton Hammes) Christman, Troy (Megan) Christman III, and Tanner (McKenna Browning) Sipe; four great-grandchildren, Jaxen Hammes, Troy Michael Christman IV, Clarke Christman, and Everley Hammes; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virgil resided his entire life in Novinger, Missouri, and was a graduate from Novinger High School with the Class of 1976. He served twenty years with the United States National Guard in Battery B 128th Field Artillery. Virgil worked at Hightower Wholesale for a number of years and was last employed a number of years at Kraft Foods in Kirksville.

Virgil enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets, buying, selling and trading small animals, and loved his beloved dog Alexis and spending time with his family.

Virgil ran the scoreboard at Novinger High School a number of years and was a volunteer of the Novinger Fire Department.

Public visitation will be held Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home, with Pastor Fred Baker officiating. Interment with military honors will be held following the service at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri at 12:00 p.m. .

Pallbearers will be Jamie Williams, James Hatcher, Michael Christman III, Aries Williams, Owen Williams, and Frank Davis.
