Joy Jean (Eason) Kerby

Joy Jean (Eason) Kerby, 86, of Glenwood, Missouri passed away at the Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri on Friday, February 24, 2023 where she had been a resident since January 2022.

The daughter of Nulty and Forrest (Flynn) Eason, she was born on July 8, 1936 in Kirksville, Missouri. On September 5, 1954, at the Queen City Christian Church in Queen City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Rex Edward Kerby and to this union three sons were born, Timothy Edward, Samuel Lee, and Jacob Dean.

Joy is survived by her sons, Sam Kerby and wife, Peggy of Glenwood, Missouri and Jake Kerby and wife, Denise of Lancaster, Missouri; six grandchildren, Countri Kerby and Jennifer Laws of Glenwood, Missouri, Jeremiah Kerby of Glenwood, Missouri, Megan McCall and husband, Clint of Bloomfield, Iowa, Heather Poe and husband, Talon of Downing, Missouri, Kimberly Watson and husband, Dillon of Lancaster, Missouri and Jeremiah Padget of Glenwood, Missouri; 11 great grandchildren, Tia Schubert and husband, Joe of Brashear, Missouri, Blakely Kerby of Glenwood, Missouri, Easton Kerby of Downing, Missouri, Blayton, Addison and Bryson McCall of Bloomfield, Iowa, Nicole and Niylah Poe of Downing, Missouri, Hallie and Kinslee Broomhall and Ayden Watson of Lancaster, Missouri; two great great grandchildren, Cohen and Weston Schubert of Brashear, Missouri; one sister, Margaret Stump of Camdenton, Missouri; special friends, Jack and Rose Padget of Glenwood, Missouri; Paul Anderson of Queen City, Missouri and nieces, nephews, other family members and many good friends.

Joy is preceded in death by her parents, Nulty Eason on July 6, 1991 and Forrest Eason on October 12, 1973; her husband, Rex Edward Kerby on January 24, 2022 after 67 wonderful years of marriage and one son, Timothy Edward Kerby on September 27, 2016; two sisters Naomi Mulanix and husband Victor and Elaine Hougelin and husband, Wert; one brother, Aaron “Buck” Eason and wife, Dorothy; one brother-in-law, Guy Stump and special friend, Doris Anderson.

Joy and Rex were members of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri and attended regularly as long as their health permitted.

Joy was employed at the Schuyler County State Bank for a number of years as a bank teller, Schuyler R-1 School as a secretary and was also employed at the Schuyler County Library.

Joy was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandma. She loved unconditionally and with her whole heart. She loved celebrating all holidays and giving gifts for every occasion that she could think of. We are pretty sure that she was one of Avon’s top buyers for many years!

An open visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with the family present at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri, with graveside services at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Missouri at 11:00 a.m. with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith officiating. Pallbearers will be Countri Kerby, Jeremiah Kerby, Easton Kerby, Talon Poe, Dillon Watson, and Clint McCall. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremiah Padget, Robbie Nelson, Jeff Tallman, Jason Watson, and Eddie Berry. Memorials have been established for Glenwood Cemetery, Schuyler County Nutrition Site or Schuyler County Public Library. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.
