Joseph “Duane” Fountain

Joseph “Duane” Fountain, 87, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, surrounded by family.

Duane was born January 25, 1935, in Colony, Missouri, the youngest son of Nolan and Hazel Baltzell Fountain.

At a young age his parents moved to Edina, Missouri and Duane attended school in Edina and graduated from the Edina High School in the Class of 1949.

He served his country in the United States Navy, stationed in Adak, Alaska and Japan. Upon returning to Edina he worked for Dr. T.D. O’Brien and later as a salesman for the Edina Lumber Yard for about forty-five years, until his retirement.

On July 10, 1960 in Edina, Missouri, Duane married Betty Lou Pinson and to this union a daughter was born.

They were members of the Edina Country Club and he enjoyed playing golf and the many other amenities of the country club. He enjoyed card games at Leonard, Missouri and following local sports teams and the players he knew. Most of all he loved attending sports activities of his grandson’s and could be heard bragging about their endeavors at the coffee shop. He was just blessed with a great grandson.

Duane is survived by his wife, Betty Fountain of Edina, Missouri; a daughter, Lou Ann and her husband Jeff Werr of Shelbina, Missouri; two grandsons, Benjamin Joseph and his wife Megan Werr of Columbia, Missouri and Nicholas John and his wife Chandler Werr of Jonesboro, Arkansas; a great grandson, John Patrick Werr; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parent, Nolan and Hazel Fountain; brothers, Dale, Don, and Delmar; and a sister, Dorothy.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Lutheran Cemetery north of Lentner, Missouri.
