Evelyn Dale Johnston

Evelyn Dale Johnston, 83, of Newark, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

Evelyn was born on August 28, 1939, in Leonard, Missouri, the daughter of Roy Alton and Frances Hopper Wood.

She attended Plevna Elementary and graduated from the Edina High School in the Class of 1957.

On January 17, 1981, in Newark, Missouri, Evelyn married Osborn McCracken “Mackie” Johnston III and they were constant companions.

Evelyn enjoyed the farm life, dancing, gardening, canning, going to auctions, and loved her dogs. She worked hard on the farm with husband Mackie. She was an excellent athlete and played softball and basketball in high school and golf in later life. She and her husband spent winters in Texas, and she loved to shop in Mexico. On any given day you would see her outside mowing her lawn…. she was obsessed. Leaves behind her beloved dog, Mac…. with nephew Steve.

She was a member of the Newark Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Evelyn is survived by a step-daughter, Lori Lee and her husband Chris Walker of Ruskin, Florida; a nephew, Steve Brown and his wife Patti of Springfield, Missouri and their daughter, Hannah; a niece, Julie Jones and her husband Rodney of Ozark, Missouri and their kids, Nathan and Nicole; along with numerous cousins and a host of friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mackie Johnston on August 19, 2015; a son Geoff Goff; parents, Roy and Frances Wood; and a sister, Janice Brown.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the Newark Cemetery in Newark, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
