Walter Eugene Hannah

Walter Eugene Hannah, 89, of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Green Castle, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Mo.

Walter was born on March 31, 1933 in Green Castle, Mo to Claude and Georgia (Shepler) Hannah. He attended Green City School and was the 1951 State Track Champion in the half mile run and held the record for many years, he graduated in 1951. On February 10, 1952 he married Clara Jean Romine, they were married for 70 years, living on the family farm. He was then drafted by the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. He then moved back to the farm and raised his family.

Walter is survived by his wife Clara Jean of the home, sons; Michael Hannah (Sonja) of Kirksville, Sheldon Hannah (Suzie) of Independence, Missouri, grandchildren; Alex Hannah (Bonita), Kyra Hannah (Charlie Shafer), Joshua Braddy, and Aaron Hannah, great grandchildren; Teddy, Baisley, and Tripp, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Clark Wilson Hannah, sisters; Eula Irene Morris and Clara Belle Hannah, mother-in-law; Bernice Butler, brother-in-law Randall Romine and sister-in-law Helen Romine Dowell and his lifelong friends Grayboy, his horse and Foxy, his dog.

Walter served as the Sullivan County Clerk for 8 years and then went to work for the Missouri Department of Agriculture. He then retired to the farm where he raised Black Angus Cattle. He was an active member of the Sullivan County Republican Party and a member of the Rotary Club. He also enjoyed coaching his children’s baseball teams.

A graveside service for Walter will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the Green Castle Cemetery in Green Castle, Missouri. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 10:00 AM at Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City, Missouri.
