MLB Scores Sunday 10-2

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Philadelphia 8 – WASHINGTON 1 (6 innings)… Zack Wheeler (12-7) pitched two-hit ball over five scoreless innings and the Phillies breezed past the Nationals in a rain-shortened contest. The victory reduced their magic number for clinching an NL wild card to one. Their next win, or a Milwaukee loss, will send them to the postseason for the first time in 12 years. Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stott each had a couple of hits and three RBIs. J.T. Realmuto smacked a solo homer.

Miami 4 – MILWAUKEE 3 (12 innings)… The Marlins outlasted the Brewers and dropped them two games behind Philadelphia in the race for the third and final NL wild card with three games remaining. Miguel Rojas singled home JJ Bleday with the decisive run in the top of the 12th inning after both teams scored single runs in the 10th.

CHI. CUBS 8 – Cincinnati 1… Nelson Velasquez doubled home two runs to cap a five-run bottom of the first inning and added a two-run triple to lead the Cubs in their romp over the Reds. Marcus Stroman (6-7) pitched five-hit ball over six scoreless innings.

Pittsburgh 7 – ST. LOUIS 5… The Pirates overtook the Cardinals after spotting them an early three-run lead. Jack Suwinski stroked a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. Ben Gamel cracked a game-tying three-run homer in the second. Bryan Reynolds also went deep. Albert Pujols connected for his 702nd career homer in the loss.

Colorado 4 – L.A. DODGERS 1… German Marquez (9-13) allowed just a run on one hit over six innings and the Rockies breezed past the NL West-champion Dodgers. Brendan Rodgers got things going with a solo homer in the top of the first inning. Sean Bouchard had a couple of hits, including an RBI double.

SAN FRANCISCO 4 – Arizona 3 (10 innings)… David Villar came through with a two-run single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Giants a walkoff win over the Diamondbacks. Pinch-hitter Austin Slater homered to lead off the seventh for San Francisco.

ATLANTA 5 – N.Y. Mets 3… Travis d’Arnaud stroked a go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the third inning as the Braves came from behind to complete a three-game sweep of the Mets and move two games ahead of them atop the NL East with two games to play. With a Braves victory, or a Mets loss, Atlanta would claim its fifth straight NL East title. Matt Olson drew a bases-loaded walk and homered for Atlanta.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Baltimore 3 – N.Y. YANKEES 1… Gunnar Henderson drew a bases-loaded walk to break a tie in the top of the seventh inning and Austin Hayes followed with a sacrifice fly as the Orioles topped the NL East-champion Yankees. Kyle Bradish allowed just an unearned run on three hits over five innings but the victory went to reliever Logan Gillaspie (1-0)

TORONTO 6 – Boston 3… The Blue Jays completed a sweep of the Red Sox and moved within one victory, or a Seattle loss, from clinching the AL’s top wild-card spot. Teoscar Hernández homered twice and knocked in three runs. Whit Merrifield went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI single.

CLEVELAND 7 – Kansas City 5… The AL Central-champion Guardians did all their scoring in their first two at-bats and held off the Royals. Will Brennan and Josh Naylor slugged three-run homers in the bottom of the second inning. Shane Bieber (13-8) gave up two runs on seven hits over five innings. One of the runs he allowed was unearned.

DETROIT 5 – Minnesota 2… Solo homers by Eric Haase and Victor Reyes helped power the Tigers past the Twins. Five Detroit relievers shut the door over the final 4-1/3 innings.

HOUSTON 3 – Tampa Bay 1… Jeremy Peña homered with a runner aboard in the bottom of the first inning and the AL West-champion Astros eased past the playoff-bound Rays. Luis Garcia (15-8) surrendered just a run on three hits over six innings.

L.A. ANGELS 8 – Texas 3… The Angels opened with a six-run bottom of the first inning and never looked back in their thumping of the Rangers. Mike Trout had three hits, including a solo homer. Livan Soto went 3-for-4 with a two-run double. Taylor Ward added three hits and an RBI.

Oakland 10 – SEATTLE 3… The Athletics built a 10-0 lead through 8-1/2 innings in their romp over the playoff-bound Mariners. Shea Langeliers homered twice and knocked in four runs. Nick Allen and Cristian Pache hit two-run homers for Oakland. James Kaprielian (5-9) pitched one-hit ball over six scoreless innings.

INTERLEAGUE
Chi. White Sox 2 – SAN DIEGO 1… The White Sox edged the Padres on a day San Diego clinched a playoff spot with Milwaukee’s loss. Elvis Andrus broke a scoreless tie with a sixth-inning homer and Adam Engel singled home a run in the seventh for Chicago. Lance Lynn (8-7) allowed a run on five hits over seven innings.
