Evelyn Jean McQueen

Evelyn Jean McQueen, fell into eternal rest on Friday, August 26, 2022. She was 88.

Mom was born December 2, 1933 on the family farm west of Worthington, Missouri to William David and Helen Irene (Crooks) Vincent, who have proceeded her in death. On May 5, 1952, in Worthington, Missouri, Mom married our Dad, John Dee McQueen, whom we lost on April 6, 2019.

Mom enjoyed telling stories of her childhood in Rock Island, Illinois, and on the farm in Worthington, Missouri. She spoke often of her parents and their wonderful, inspiring love story. She had a very special place in her heart for her sister, Carol Ann (Vincent) Western and loved to tell stories of their antics.

Mom was very proud of us kids, all twelve of us. Her constant reminder to ‘put yourself in their shoes’ resulted in individuals that are considerate and caring. She and dad bragged that they were most proud because none of us ended up in jail. The work ethic that she and Dad instilled in us has been passed to our kids and grandkids, which must be the most joyous thing. Each of us could tell you stories of our Mom’s strength, both physical and emotional. From the time that she punched a turkey in the head and killed it, to her last days when she understood that she was finally going home and had so many others waiting to greet her. On Earth, she has raised her last child, milked her last cow, fed her last calf, made her last cherry cheesecake, read her last Louis L’Amour novel, sewed her last stitch, and crocheted her last potholder. In Heaven, she is rejoicing with the family who has been waiting on her to come home. She is resting and listening to her family sing and play the bluegrass music she loved so much. She and Dad are together again. She had her children at her side as she went to her eternal home and was comforted.

Mom is survived by 11 of her children and many great and great-grandchildren: Children: Dennis McQueen; Patrick McQueen and his wife Jody; Dwight McQueen and his wife Myra; Vincent McQueen and his wife, Regina; Rebecca McQueen; Bonita (McQueen) Carman and her husband Tom, Linda (McQueen) Harris and her husband, Brian; John Brian McQueen; Todd McQueen; Jessica McQueen and her fiancé, Danny Noland; Penny McQueen.
