Joan Sorrell

Joan Sorrell, 83 of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022 at her home.
Joan was the daughter of Beulah and I. E. Markham. She was born April 2nd, 1939 in Kirksville. On September 2nd, 1959, she was united in marriage to T. W. Sorrell.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her sister-in-law Nancy Herron.

Joan is survived by her husband T.W.; daughter, Sherri Robison and her husband Keith Robison, of Hannibal, Missouri; four grand children: Collin Dobson (Marie), Devan Dobson, Rachael Robison, Jonathan Robison; Five great grand children: Elizabeth Deming, Elsie Grier, Henry Dobson, Charlotte Dobson and Everett Robison.

Joan graduated from Kirksville High School with the class of 1957, and attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri. Joan and T. W. lived in Hannibal, Missouri, where she worked in the library at Eugene Field Elementary School. She loved to read to students with her talents of great animation and special voices to enhance each story.

Later they both returned to Kirksville where she worked in her mother’s store, Markham’s children’s store, on the square. She especially enjoyed taking photos at “Her Lake” (Forrest Lake), and bird watching with her special dogs Grady and later Kate from her pontoon. An excellent cook with her specialties pecan pie and homemade bread.

Public visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31 2022, with the funeral directly following at 2:00 p.m. at Travis-Noe Funeral Home, with Pastor David Massey-Brown presiding.
