Ernest L. “Red” Powell

Ernest L. “Red” Powell, age 85 of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at his home.

Born August 31, 1936 in Keytesville, Missouri, the son of Johnie and Retha (Howard) Powell. On June 29, 1957 in Miami, Florida, he was united in marriage to Anita Tallent who preceded him in death on March 20, 2020. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Surviving are three children, Jay Powell, Mark Powell, and Renita Noel all of La Plata, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Tim (Shari) Powell, Rachel Powell, Rebecca (Brandon) Lovingier, Tyler Powell, Chelsea Powell, Jeana (Colton) Curtis, Josh (Laci) Noel, and Jeffrey (Shelby) Noel; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Red served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1973. He was the Head of Security at Doral Country Club in Miami, Florida from 1973 to 1977. Red moved to Elmer, Missouri in 1977 and started farming. In 1982 he moved to La Plata. He was a member of the Atlanta Baptist Church and La Plata American Legion. Red enjoyed working on the farm, golfing, NASCAR racing, going to coffee with his friends, and most of all, spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Burial with full military honors will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 2, 2021 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
