Hannibal Dominates KHS

A promising start by the Kirksville Tiger defense could not be sustained and Hannibal dominated the 2nd and 3rd quarters in a 41-0 win over the Pirates Friday. The Tigers picked up where they left off last week by twice forcing Hannibal to turn the ball over on downs in the first period as the teams battled to a scoreless tie at the end of one. Hannibal would put together a 14 play drive capped off by a four yard TD run by Aneyas Williams with 8:59 left in the second quarter. Kirksville’s Isaac Danielson would throw an interception which was returned all the way to the Tiger five yard line. In short order Williams found the end zone again on a one yard run to make it 14-0 with 3:32 to play in the second. Hannibal deflected a Tiger punt which gave Hannibal excellent field position deep in Tiger territory. Masterful clock management resulted in William’s third touchdown of the game, a four yard catch from Courtland Watson with :16 ticks on the clock. Hannibal took a 20-0 lead into the locker room. Kirksville took the opening kickoff of the second half, but quickly had to punt it away. Hannibal would then score on a 25 yard pass from Watson to Kaiser Greenwell with 10:47 left in the third quarter. A 73 yard touchdown run by Tyler Hardy and another Aneyas Williams touchdown gave the Pirates a 41-0 lead at the end of the third. With continuous clock in effect in the fourth quarter, Hannibal would consume 10:25 of the fourth quarter and put the game to bed 41-0. Hannibal totaled 417 yards of offense with 305 yards rushing led by AJ Thomas who ran for 107 very efficient yards. Danielson would throw two interceptions on the night. Kirksville dips to 3-3 on the year, 2-1 in the NCMC. Hannibal keeps their perfect record intact at 6-0. Next for the Tigers, Homecoming against the Mexico Bulldogs. Mexico beat Fulton Friday 35-14.
