KHS Picks Up First Win With Thriller Over Savannah

Drew Chrisman made the biggest tackle of his life at Savannah Friday to preserve the Kirksville Tigers win over the Savages 34-28. The game was tied at 28-28 until Kirksville’s Isaac Danielson took the ball into the end zone from the two yard line with 3:25 left in the game. After a failed two point conversion the score remained 34 to 28. Savannah put together a nice drive, which included a fourth down conversion, setting up the Savages with a first and goal with time running out. The Tiger defense made three stops, and with Savannah facing fourth and goal at the eight yard line with 40 seconds to play Savannah QB Ethan Dudek handed the ball off to Alex Hopper, who already had scored Savannah’s game tying touchdown with 7:47 remaining, and as Hopper weaved his way through the Tiger defense, Chrisman made the game ending tackle at the one yard line giving the Tigers their first win of the season. Chrisman gave KHS a 20-7 lead late in the 3rd quarter on a two yard run before Savannah answered with two quick touchdowns to tie the game at 20-20 at the end of the third. Danielson scored on a nifty 28 yard run with 10:19 to play in the game, and after the two point conversion was good KHS took a 28-20 lead. That’s when Hopper answered back with a two yard scoring run to tie the game at 28-28 after the two point play. Danielson’s third rushing TD would prove to be the final score 34-28. Danielson also passed for a touchdown in the first quarter, a 30 yard pass to Jalen Kent. Chrisman rushed for 69 yards, Landon Yardley picked up 89 yards on the ground, Danielson ran for 88 yards to go along with his 217 passing yards. In all, KHS posted 463 yards of total offense, and won the time of possession for the first time this season, keeping the ball for over 27 minutes by putting together balanced, time consuming drives. KHS climbs to 2-1 on the year and will play their next two games at home, starting with Moberly Friday. The Spartans are 0-3 on the season after losing to Excelsior Springs 34-14.
