Gloria June (Lene) Jacobs

Gloria June (Lene) Jacobs, age 82 of Elmer, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

She was born on March 22, 1939 in Macon, Missouri, the daughter of Paul and Hazel (Sweikert) Lene.

She was a mother to four children and was proud of having twins; Debbie (Brian) Atha of Ethel, Missouri and David (Tracy) Jacobs of La Plata, Missouri and Doug Jacobs of La Plata, Missouri and Damon (Trudy) Jacobs of Kirksville, Missouri; a doting grandmother to six grandchildren, Brandi (David), Brook (Jason), Michael, Kristy, Rachel, and Shayna; and great grandmother to Jasey, Atley, Josh, and Kinzlee.

Also surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, David and Linda Lene of Elmer, Missouri; niece and nephew, Sheryl and Scott (Tammy); one great niece, Johnna; and two great nephews, Zachary and Tanner.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one grandson, Michael Jacobs; and several aunts and uncles.

Gloria was a 1957 graduate of Elmer High School and worked as a C.N.A. at the La Plata Nursing Home where she made many friends until her retirement in 2010 after 41 years of service. She was a member of the Elmer Baptist Church.

Gloria always had a smile for everyone and didn’t let life get her down, even when it was really hard. She loved soap operas, “Wheel of Fortune”, popcorn of any kind, and being outside. She made the best-fried tenderloins in the world, but hated to cook. There is no telling the amount of money she spent renting movies at the La Plata C&R or on cappuccinos at Casey’s for her mom. Her favorite color was yellow and her favorite song was “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those who called her Mom, Grandma June, and Aunt June. Gloria always said, “There’s two dates in time that they’ll carve on your stone and everyone knows what they mean, but what’s more important is the time that is known as that little dash there in between.”

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2021 at the Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Elmer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Gloria may be made to Elmer Baptist Church. They may be sent to or left at Travis Funeral Chapel, 125 S. Church St., La Plata, MO 63549.
