Richard Alexander Bloom, 80, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
He was born on January 22, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Richard George and Myrtle Henrietta Otto Bloom.
Dick attended school in Freeport, Illinois and graduated in the Class of 1957, he continued his education with DeVry University in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1959, with a degree in electronics.
He worked many jobs over the years, first with Snap-On in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Superscope in Chicago, Illinois, owned and operated a shoe repair store and sold radio advertising in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and even in retirement he kept busy as a shuttle driver in Phoenix, Arizona.
On November 23, 1973, in Mt. Morris, Michigan, he married Janis Lee Milne.
They were members of the Methodist Church in Phoenix, Arizona before moving to Edina, Missouri, where they were members of the United Methodist Church in Edina.
Dick is survived by his wife, Jan Bloom of Edina, Missouri; a daughter, Traci
and Brandon Howard of Holland, Michigan; his children, Mark Bloom and Karen Bloom both of Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Quinn and Emerson Howard; and three cousins, Elizabeth Pike, Helen Marie Totsky and Pam Sanders, all of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Shirley Bloom.
He enjoyed electronics and was a sales representative for many years, and enjoyed watch and clock repair, tinkering on cars and crewing for hot air balloons. Dick also enjoyed participating in Community Theater, finding hidden gems at garage sales and auctions, traveling and road trips, and going to Disneyland, where he met Jan.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2021, at the Edina United Methodist Church in Edina, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Monday until service time at the church.
