Dolores Summers

Alma Dolores (Campbell) Summers passed away on May 6, 2021. She was born June 17, 1935, south of Pollock, MO. She was one of seven children born to Joseph Eli Campbell and Alma Elizabeth (Davis) Campbell.

She graduated from Milan, MO, high school in 1953. On September 3, 1953, she was united in marriage to Richard K. Summers. To this union three children were born: Ronald Ray, Derinda Kay, and Lorie Ann.

She is survived by her children: Ron and Martia (Williams) Summers of Mexico, MO; Derinda and Lynn Chambers of Macomb, IL; Lorie and Kevin Pipes of Albia, Iowa. Three grandchildren and their spouses: Dustin & Heidi Chambers of Edwardsville, IL; Lynnsey (Stacy) & Bret Simons of Olathe, KS, Taylor Stacy of Des Moines, IA. Three step grandchildren: Justin Pipes of Ottumwa, IA; Kristin Burton of Ottumwa, IA; Jessica Pipes of Des Moines, IA. Great Grandchildren: Emerson Chambers; Joenna Sears; Luka Stacy; Becket Simons; Kenliegh Burton; Brinkleigh, Bexleigh and Grayden Heinrichs. And her sister Jennie Choate of Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two twin grandsons, Tanner & Brelynn Stacy; her sisters, Mary Butler and Thelma Rhyne, and brothers, E.G Campbell, George Campbell, and Frank Campbell.

She was a member of the Unionville First Christian Church. She was the secretary of their personal business Summers Bros. Plumbing/Heating and Electric. She also worked at Putnam County R-1 School.

Dolores loved her family, taking care of them and her home, preparing meals for holidays, baking, reading & sports. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

She loved spending time with her family and friends, talking about her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and going to church. One of the many things she loved to do was visit with her children, grandchildren and with her nieces, Chris Fleshman and Jeanie Johnson, and close family friend, Deb Hamilton, on the phone. She also enjoyed their occasional girls’ night out!

She was a very special person, and a much-loved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and member of the community.

Dolores’s funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 11th at 11:00 am at the Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home and burial followed at the Unionville Cemetery.
