Sandra Olds, 76, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at Mercy One Hospital in Centerville, Iowa, on Thursday, March 25, 2021, after a period of failing health.
Sandra Lee (Aubrey) Olds was born in Tripoli, Iowa, on October 19, 1944, the daughter of Maurice and Florence (Boeckman) Aubrey, who preceded her in death. She was raised in Tripoli and graduated from High School there in 1962. Sandra married Lyle Olds in Tripoli on October 27, 1962, and he survives at home. Sandra worked as a secretary for Kroblin Transportation for two years and then for a loan company in Charles City, Iowa, for two years before beginning a long career with John Deere manufacturing in Waterloo, Iowa. She advanced to supervisor, becoming the first woman supervisor on the assembly line at Deere. She retired in 1997 after over thirty years with the company. Sandra and Lyle moved to Lake Thunderhead in Unionville, Missouri, in 1999.
Sandra loved to fish for crappie. She also liked to do all kinds of crafts. She especially liked to create artwork of stained and blown glass. She and Lyle often traveled to Orange Beach in the Gulf Shores area where Sandra would collect sea glass and seashells. She was admired for her independent and strong-willed character. She had previously served on the Lake Association board and she liked to attend the Wednesday Lake women’s group. Most important to Sandy was Lyle, the love of her life, and her devoted family.
In addition to her husband, Sandra is survived by their two children, Jeff (June) Olds of Des Moines, Iowa, and Stacie Hennesy of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Sandra’s six grandchildren are Aleesha (Matt) Hobbs, Jesse (Emily) Olds, Lauren (Walker) Kelly, Ryan Hennesy, Megan Hennesy, and Kaitlyn Hennesy. Her four great grandchildren are Claire, Aiden, and Aubrie Hobbs, and David Hennesy.
Funeral services for Sandra Olds will be at Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, Missouri, at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 27, 2021, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Faith United Church of Christ Cemetery in Tripoli, Iowa on Monday, March 29, 2021.
