Rev. David Lee Howald

Rev. David Lee Howald, 75 of Edina, passed away at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, on January 16, 2021.

David was born December 21, 1945, to the late John R. and Betty Jo (Rubison) Howald of Center, Missouri.

David grew up on a farm near Hunington, Missouri, then later moved to Palmyra Missouri. He attended rural Gentry school and Palmyra High School. He attended Hannibal LaGrange College, in Hannibal, MO, Following high school, he was employed at Moorman Manufacturing and Merkels Hardware in Quincy, Illinois.

Believing the call of God on his life he was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel on August 12, 1973, at the First Baptist Church Edina Missouri, where he served as the Pastor from 1973-1994. He later served as a bi-vocational Pastor at the Wyaconda Baptist Church near Canton Missouri, from 1994-2014. He was also employed at Franks MFA Service Station and later at Edina Farm and Home both of Edina, Missouri.

He enjoyed farm life and being outside taking care of the farm animals. He enjoyed hunting, especially hunting with his coon hounds, fishing with friends and camping with his family. He was always willing to help farmers and people in the community in times of need.

On September 4, 1964 David married his sweetheart and best friend, Phyllis Luetta (Keller) Howald of Palmyra Missouri and she survives at their home near Edina, Missouri. Also Surviving are three daughters, Sara (Brad) Peters Hudson, Illinois, Beth (Royal) Jolliff of Kansas City, Missouri, Cara Sue Howald of Everly, Iowa, Alan (Linda) Howald of Moberly, Missouri; five grandsons, Joey Peters, Zach (Jessie) Peters, Sean Peters, Ryan Jolliff, Brandon Jolliff.

He is also survived by two sisters, DeAnn Shores of Quincy, Illinois, Cheryl (Larry) Meeks of West Point, Illinois, two brothers, John Howald Jr. of Quincy, Illinois, Marlin (Joyce) Howald of Nioga, Illinois, and an aunt, LaRita (Robert) Poage of Center, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Upon his request David was cremated with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date, there will be an announcement of his services when the family schedules them.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, MO.

Burial will be at Rock Creek Cemetery near Edina, Missouri.
