Wanita D. (Williams) Douglas

Wanita D. (Williams) Douglas, 89, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021 at her home.

Wanita was the daughter of Basil and Bertha Mae (Rogers) Williams, she was born June 14, 1931 in Kirksville, Missouri.

On May 3, 1952 Wanita was united in marriage to Dennis L. Douglas who preceded her in death on May 4, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Steve Douglas of WI.

Wanita is survived by her daughter Denita Ackley of Kirksville, MO; daughter-in-law, Dru Douglas of Janesville, WI; five grandchildren, Meshell Nichols and husband Chad, Crystal Craft and husband Tim, Jenny Douglas, Nick Douglas and wife Hailey, and Matt Douglas; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan Nichols, Gabby Nichols, Sam Craft, Joey Craft, Evelyn Douglas, Carly Douglas, Oaken Douglas, and Aberleen Douglas. Wanita is also survived by two wonderful sisters, Armada Zimmerman and Mary Jo Walters both of Kirksville, MO, and her sister-in-law, Carol Opel Williams.

Wanita was a nurse of Grim-Smith and Laughlin Hospitals. When Hollister, Inc. came to Kirksville, Wanita was one of the first ten people to be hired. In 1966, Wanita and Dennis moved to Bettendorf, IA where they lived forty-eight years. Wanita worked as director at a Youth Center for teens with emotional and behavior problems for eighteen years. Wanita loved her family and loved spending time with each of them.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville, with Chaplain Carrol Davenport officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, MO.
