Frustrating Night For The Tigers In Loss To Capital City

Despite recovering four Capital City High fumbles, the Kirksville Tigers couldn’t cash in on any of them and lost a frustrating game to the Cavaliers 13-7 in Jefferson City, giving Capital City High its first ever varsity football win.  The Tigers exploded right out of the gate.  On the Tiger’s first play from scrimmage Jaden Ballinger found Noah Copeland for a 48 yard pass to set up Kirksville deep in Capital City territory.  The Tigers would score on a 17 yard pass from Ballinger to Lane Feeney to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead just one minute and sixteen seconds into the game.  But from there the Cavalier’s defense shut down Kirksville for the rest of the night.  Capital City tied the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter.  Kirksville recovered two of Capital City’s four turnovers in the red zone late in the first half, but could not take advantage.  Capital City completely dominated the line of scrimmage in the second half, taking the opening kickoff, chewing up massive amounts of clock and took the lead with 6:20 to play on a one yard run by big fullback Ian Nelson on fourth and goal.  Capital City got the ball with 8:26 to play in the game and never gave Kirksville another chance with a 14 play, 47 yard drive which included a big fourth down conversion and ran out the clock to win the game 13-7.  Capital City limited Kirksville to just 12 plays in the second half.  Capital City ran the ball 55 times for 213 yards and won the time of possession with 30 minutes compared to just 18 for the Tigers.  Kirksville dips to 5-4 on the season, Capital City climbs to 1-6.  Next, the Tigers await word on location and opponent for the first week of district play Friday.
