Here We Go Again, Cardinals Weekend Series With Cubs Called Off

This weekend’s series between the Cardinals and Cubs at Busch Stadium has been postponed, according to multiple reports Friday evening. Cubs beat writer Gordon Wittenmeyer was first to report that the Cubs left St. Louis Friday night and returned to Chicago following the postponement of the series.

Another St. Louis player tested positive for COVID-19, according to Major League Baseball, bringing to 14 the number of positive COVID cases within the organization.

In total, eight Cardinals players have tested positive for the coronavirus since last week.

The Cardinals have not played since July 29 because of positive coronavirus tests. The team previously announced that it had returned 13 positive tests from its traveling party, with seven of them coming from players.

The team had returned to the field for light workouts Wednesday after being cleared to travel back to St. Louis from Milwaukee late Tuesday.

Among the players who confirmed they tested positive for COVID-19 were two All-Stars, catcher Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong. All-Star right-hander Carlos Martinez also went on the injured list, though no reason was given.

The question must be raised, and satisfactorily answered, why the Cardinals are the only team having trouble containing the virus? Even the Miami Marlins are back competing again after nearly a week off.
