KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – In a game that lived up to its billing, Maddie Re’s layup off an inbounds pass from Sloane Totta with 1.8 seconds remaining gave the Truman Women’s Basketball team a 78-77 win over Maryville University on Saturday afternoon.
Re scored a career high 17 points and added 10 rebounds but it was either eighth of 10 field goal attempts made that was the difference maker. Truman (9-3; 5-0 GLVC) led by eight with 2:52 to play but the Saints chipped away with defensive stops and timely shooting to grab a 77-76 lead on Mary Barton’s 28th point of the night on a dribble drive with 2.9 seconds remaining.
Following the first of two lengthy video reviewing involving the clock at the end, Totta went cross court on her inbounds pass to find Re under the basket for the winner.
Truman will continue their four-game homestand next weekend hosting Illinois Springfield on Thursday and Lewis University on Saturday.
